Special features: A rare homage from Velier to the historic Ward family, closely associated with the oldest continuously operating rum distillery in the world, Mount Gay in Barbados. The Pure Single Rum was created from a cuvée of 13 carefully selected casks from the 2007 vintage. Triple distilled in a pot still and aged for 16 years in former bourbon barrels made of American oak, it reflects the unique aging climate of Barbados. During the long maturation period, about 70% of the volume evaporated to the angels.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Refined and complex with hints of a Grande Champagne Cognac; notes of candied apricot, foliage, and forest floor that develop into cardamom and nutmeg. Exotic fruits like mango and pomegranate join in, accompanied by noble wood notes.
• Palate: Full-bodied and intense with a flavor dominance of cane sugar, molasses, and geranium. Freshly squeezed oranges provide a refreshing vitality on the mid-palate.
• Finish: Long and full-bodied, characterized by sugarcane, roasted notes like coffee, and spices like ginger and cinnamon. The aftertaste becomes increasingly floral and vegetal with nuances of pipe tobacco, walnut, hazelnut, and almond.

Distillery/Bottler: Mount Gay is considered the oldest continuously operating distillery in the world and has represented the rum tradition of Barbados since 1703. The Ward family significantly shaped the history of Mount Gay; in particular, Frank Ward as the last family owner helped the distillery gain international recognition. Velier honors this connection with the Last Ward 2007, which impressively showcases the historical significance and craftsmanship of the distillery.
