Distilled in 1993, this Ledaig matured for thirty years in a Refill Sherry Butt. Gordon & MacPhail bottled the whisky from cask #706 on 12 April 2024 for Connoisseurs Choice Cask Strength. This single-cask release comprises 381 bottles, each containing 0.7 litres at 57.2% alcohol, and comes in a premium presentation box.

The Sherry Butt, previously used to mature whisky, combines a long maturation with Ledaig's peaty, smoky character in this release. Fruity and sweet notes sit alongside spices, roasted flavours and salty, maritime accents. The whisky is non-chill filtered and has no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, Seville orange, strawberry and toffee apple combine with stewed fruit and ginger spice. Peat smoke with coastal touches adds to the aroma, accompanied by hints of dried fruit, toasted almonds and subtle Sherry sweetness.
• Palate: On the palate, brown sugar and vanilla give way to dried cherry. A gentle coffee bean note leads to dried banana and toasted oak. Smoky peat, dark chocolate and ripe figs add to the flavour. Spicy oak and a hint of sea salt provide further accents.
• Finish: The finish has medium body, with lingering autumnal spices and black pepper. Gentle smoke and Sherry sweetness remain, accompanied by a delicate salty, maritime touch and a warming mouthfeel.

Distillery/Bottler:

Tobermory Distillery was founded in 1798 on the Isle of Mull. Today it produces two styles of single malt: unpeated Tobermory and peated, smoky Ledaig. The distillery uses water from the nearby Gearr Abhainn for its whiskies.

Gordon & MacPhail has worked with Scottish distilleries since 1895, maturing their spirits in its own casks. Cask selection also involves preparation: the company commissions Sherry casks made to its specifications in Jerez and seasoned with Sherry before they travel to Scotland. For this Ledaig, Gordon & MacPhail oversaw maturation in the Refill Sherry Butt and the independent bottling of the whisky from cask #706.
