Back to the Roots is a small batch from the third WhiskyHeroes release. The twelve-year-old Linkwood received a finish in first-fill Tennessee bourbon barrels. Brave New Spirits bottled 379 bottles at 56.7%. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Ripe apricot and peach give this bottling its bright fruit character. Vanilla, toasted grain and sweet oats sit alongside pronounced oak spice, while the palate has a creamy texture. The tree-like hero on the label plays on the name Back to the Roots.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Ripe apricot and juicy peach lead on the nose, joined by vanilla and a touch of toasted grain.
• Palate: On the palate, bold oak spice and vanilla combine with sweet oats. The texture is creamy and full.
• Finish: The long finish remains spicy and slightly sweet; oak lends it structure as a subtle grain note fades.

Distillery/Bottler:

Linkwood stands on the outskirts of Elgin in Speyside. Peter Brown founded the distillery in 1821, and production began 4 years later. It remained in the Brown family until the end of the 19th century. Following a rebuild in the 1960s, a second plant was built beside the older distillery in 1971; the two sites became known as Linkwood A and Linkwood B.

Brave New Spirits is an independent bottler based in Glasgow, founded in 2020. The company launched WhiskyHeroes in 2024 as a series of single-cask and small-batch bottlings with comic-style labels. For Back to the Roots, it selected Linkwood whisky that received a finish in first-fill Tennessee bourbon barrels and bottled it as part of the series’ third release.
