A five-year finish in Oloroso sherry and tawny port casks defines this Linkwood bottling from the Benchmark Spring Release 2025. Distilled in 2012, the single malt first matured in a bourbon hogshead. For the finish, Murray McDavid used casks filled with whisky for the first time after previously holding wines from Spain and Portugal. Linkwood’s fruity character and berry notes meet cocoa and nutty flavours.

This 12-year-old whisky comes from four casks: 313691, 313704, 313760 and 313764. In spring 2025, they yielded 1,232 bottles at 54.4%. The whisky is not chill-filtered and contains no added colouring; the 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose evokes Black Forest gateau, cocoa and orange oil.
• Palate: Nutty dates, red berries and almonds emerge on the palate.
• Finish: Cooked fruit, caramel and spicy oak linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1821, Linkwood Distillery in Speyside produced the single malt for this bottling. Independent bottler Murray McDavid oversaw its subsequent cask maturation and bottled the whisky after its Oloroso sherry and tawny port finish.

Murray McDavid was founded in 1994 by wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin, together with Gordon Wright of Springbank Distillery. The bottler made maturation in a range of casks, particularly wine casks, an early focus. Today Murray McDavid is part of Aceo Ltd. and is based at Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.
