Special Features:

A finish in former Port Charlotte whisky cask 1195 shapes this Long Pond CRV from the Experimental Series by Rest & Be Thankful. Long Pond distilled the rum in 2001 in a column still following light fermentation; the cask was filled on 13 April 2001. The rum matured for 22 years, partly in tropical conditions and partly in a continental climate. It was bottled in July 2023 at 57.1%, with an outturn of 352 bottles.

Ripe exotic fruit, caramel and spicy notes define its character. Nutmeg and smoky accents from the whisky finish complement the fruit, while the rum feels powerful on the palate. It is non-chill-filtered and contains no added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals ripe exotic fruit and dark spicy notes. A hint of vanilla complements the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, nutmeg and bold caramel notes combine with pronounced smoky accents. The mouthfeel is powerful. Caramelised sugar notes emerge first, followed by dark chocolate and a hint of wood.
• Finish: The finish is long and warm. Spicy notes linger, accompanied by subtle sweetness and a smoky aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Long Pond is located in Clark's Town in Jamaica's Trelawny region and traces its history back to 1753. National Rums of Jamaica operates the distillery, as well as Clarendon and the Innswood maturation facility. After several years of closure due to waste disposal problems, Long Pond resumed operations in 2017 once the necessary procedures and permits for reopening were in place.

Rest & Be Thankful belongs to the independent spirits company Fox Fitzgerald and bottles whisky and rum from selected casks. The brand launched in 2012 with single-cask bottlings; its connection to Bruichladdich meant that Port Charlotte and Octomore were among its first whiskies. This experience with Islay whisky provides the background to pairing Jamaican rum with former whisky casks in the Experimental Series.
