A finish in a former Port Charlotte whisky cask shapes this single-cask release from the Experimental Series by Rest & Be Thankful. The CRV rum comes from Long Pond in Jamaica and was distilled in a column still following light fermentation. It was filled into cask on 13 April 2001. Its 22-year maturation took place under tropical and continental conditions in an American oak Barrel before it received its finish in cask 1577. On 10 July 2023, the rum yielded 350 bottles at cask strength of 56.6%.

Tropical fruit, vanilla and spices combine with caramel and oak. Subtle smoky accents complement the fruit; dark molasses and a hint of maritime peat smoke join them on the palate. Dark chocolate accompanies the long, warm finish. The rum is non-chill filtered and contains no colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals ripe tropical fruit, spices and sweet vanilla. A subtle smoky undertone complements the fruity aroma.
• Palate: The rum is rich and full-bodied on the palate. Toasted caramel meets a hint of oak; ripe fruit, dark molasses and spicy oak are accompanied by a subtle note of maritime peat smoke.
• Finish: The finish is long and warm, with subtle hints of dark chocolate.

Distillery/Bottler:

Long Pond is located in Clark's Town in Jamaica's Trelawny parish and is operated by National Rums of Jamaica. The distillery's history dates back to 1753. Following several years of closure due to waste disposal problems, Long Pond resumed operations in 2017 once the necessary procedures and permits for reopening were in place.

Rest & Be Thankful is Fox Fitzgerald's independent bottling brand. It began in 2012 with single casks of whisky; its early releases included Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte and Octomore. This connection to the whisky world also led to the development of its rum programme. The name recalls a resting place on Scotland's A83, where a stone inscription from 1753 commemorates the construction of an old military road. For its single-cask and small-batch releases, the brand uses no additives or colouring and does not chill filter.
