Bart’s brings together five different whiskeys: grain whiskey, pot still whiskey, peated malt, and two malt whiskeys finished in rye whiskey and Oloroso casks respectively. These different whiskey styles gain additional influences from casks previously used for rye whiskey and sherry. Bart’s was Lough Ree Distillery’s first blended whiskey. It is bottled at 46%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

The name honours Bart Clancy, the father of the three siblings who founded the distillery. His enthusiasm for repairing clocks inspired the blend: like the parts of a clock mechanism, the individual whiskeys are intended to work together, each contributing something of its own.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, toasted orange peel and toasted marshmallow mingle with lighter fruit notes of kiwi and pear. A hint of cinnamon rounds out the aromas.
• Palate: Red fruits on the palate recall a sweet summer fruit dessert. Dry spice then emerges, followed by notes of clove sweets and the caramelised sugar crust of a crème brûlée.
• Finish: The long finish remains spicy and leaves an oily mouthfeel. It grows drier and fades with subtle traces of smoke.

Distillery/Bottler:

Peter, Sheila and Michael Clancy founded Lough Ree Distillery in their hometown of Lanesborough, County Longford, on the Shannon near where it flows into Lough Ree. In 2018, they established their microdistillery in a former butcher’s shop. They initially produced gin and vodka there; their own whiskey distillation began in 2022. The siblings had already introduced Bart’s in late 2021.

The whiskeys used in Bart’s are distilled at Great Northern Distillery and blended to Lough Ree’s specifications. Bottling takes place in Lanesborough. Great Northern has operated in Dundalk, County Louth, since 2015, supplying other distilleries and whiskey brands among its customers. Using pot stills and continuous column stills, the company produces a range of whiskey styles, including grain, malt, peated malt and pot still whiskey.
