Maturation in predominantly sherry-seasoned European oak casks shapes Sherry Oak 12 Years Old. The whisky matures for at least twelve years on the Macallan Estate in Speyside. To season the casks, Spanish bodegas fill them with sherry before emptying them and sending them to Scotland. During maturation, the whisky develops its natural colour and notes of dried fruit, ginger and oak spice.

This twelve-year-old whisky is a core expression of the Sherry Oak Collection. Each bottle contains 0.7 litres at 40% alcohol. Raisins and sultanas form its fruity core, while candied citrus peel adds a fresh accent. Nutmeg and cinnamon complement the oak spice. The bottle comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose brings dried fruit and candied citrus peel alongside oak, ginger and nutmeg. Vanilla, sherry sweetness and a hint of wood smoke round out the aroma.
• Palate: On the palate, raisins and sultanas meet ginger syrup, followed by sweet cinnamon and a hint of vanilla. The whisky feels smooth, while sherry, wood smoke and spices accompany the dried fruit.
• Finish: The long finish fades with oak, warming ginger and sweet toffee. Dried fruit, wood smoke and spices linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Macallan Distillery stands on the Easter Elchies estate beside the River Spey. Alexander Reid founded the distillery, which received a licence to distil in 1824. The single malt is distilled here and matures on the Macallan Estate. The Macallan has been part of Edrington’s portfolio since the group acquired Highland Distillers in 1999.
