For the Double Cask 18 Years Old 2022 Release, The Macallan combines whisky matured for 18 years in sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks. American oak contributes vanilla and pronounced sweetness, while European oak adds spicy depth. The higher proportion of American oak shapes this release’s sweeter, warm character.

The casks were seasoned with sherry in Jerez. The whisky has a natural honey-amber colour and is offered as a distillery bottling at 43% alcohol.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, dried fruit and toffee mingle with ginger, candied citrus peel and orange, accented by clove and nutmeg.
• Palate: Raisins and sultanas come first on the palate, followed by dried apricot, dark toffee, caramel, vanilla and ginger. Toasted oak spice, baked apple and fresh citrus balance the sweetness.
• Finish: The finish is long-lasting, with warm oak spice and ginger giving way to sweet orange.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Macallan Distillers Limited produces the distillery’s single malts at the Macallan Estate near Craigellachie in Speyside. The Macallan has held a distilling licence there since 1824. The selection of sherry-seasoned oak casks is central to its production; in this Double Cask release, the interplay of two oak types shapes both the flavour and the natural colour.
