The Macallan Classic Cut 2023 is the seventh annual release in the series, combining American oak ex-bourbon casks with sherry-seasoned European oak casks. The latter were seasoned with sherry before the whisky was matured in them. The edition was bottled at 50.3% with its natural colour. Its flavour profile changes with the drinking strength: fresh pear takes the lead at full strength, while carefully adding water to bring it to around 40% makes the almond biscuit notes more pronounced. Whisky Maker Diane Stuart deliberately selected these two strengths for their different flavour impressions.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pear and elderflower combine with a delicate almond note and the rich aroma of vanilla pod.
• Palate: On the palate, sweet, creamy vanilla, juicy pear and lemon zest meet gentle oak.
• Finish: The medium-length finish lingers with sweet oak and almond biscuit.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Macallan is the distillery behind this Speyside single malt; Classic Cut 2023 is an official distillery bottling. Its Whisky Mastery team works with a dedicated wood programme that oversees cask sourcing, construction, toasting and seasoning. Work on the casks therefore begins before the whisky itself starts maturing. This edition brings together two cask types: American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak casks seasoned with sherry.
