Vibrant Oak puts American oak at the heart of the fourth Harmony Collection. The Macallan developed this edition with Cirque du Soleil to mark the distillery’s 200th anniversary. The whisky matured in a combination of first-fill sherry-seasoned American oak casks and previously used sherry casks. The cask selection brings out vanilla, citrus and sweet oak.

The presentation also reflects the focus on oak: wood shavings produced during cask-making are reused for the gift packaging and bottle labels. The single malt comes in a 0.7-litre bottle at 44.2%.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with intense vanilla pod, sweet sherbet and lime zest, followed by fragrant pears and delicate vanilla cake.
• Palate: On the palate, the whisky is creamy like vanilla panna cotta. Buttery shortbread, lightly toasted coconut, almond brittle and apple mingle with sweet oak.
• Finish: The medium-length finish remains sweet, with lingering vanilla.

Distillery/Bottler:

Alexander Reid obtained a licence to distil beside the River Spey in 1824. The Macallan’s estate today includes Easter Elchies House and the distillery opened in 2018. Macallan Distillers Ltd produces Vibrant Oak and bottles the whisky as an official bottling.

The Macallan has its sherry-seasoned oak casks made to precise specifications. The Macallan has been among Edrington’s brands since Edrington acquired Highland Distillers in 1999.
