Macaloney Canadian Single Malt - Peat Project - Moscatel Barrique
Special features: This Canadian single malt whisky from Macaloney's Island Distillery impresses with its unique production. The distillation is done with local malt that is smoked in-house with peat from the state of Washington, USA. The whisky then matures in a carefully selected European Moscatel wine cask, which gives it a special depth. In 2025, this whisky was awarded the title "Canadian Whisky of the Year".
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Medium peat smoke with notes of oak wood fire, cigar, dried hay, vanilla pod, and white Moscatel wine. Floral and fruity aromas of dried apricots, lychee, melon, fresh ginger, banana, coconut, sugar snap peas, roses, and honey. Followed by aromas of juniper and coastal pine forest, followed by white chocolate, hazelnut, marzipan, and walnut, rounded off with a sea breeze and lingering peat smoke.
Palate: Velvety with strong peat, sweet burnt heather, malt extract, hemp rope, and seaside. Tropical fruits like pineapple, sultanas, pears, figs, and cooked apples lead to heather honey, chocolate orange, and lime-banana tart, followed by cloves, white pepper, licorice, marzipan, hazelnut, walnut, rum, and raisin toffee. The finish is dry with a hint of salt and lingering smoke.
