Martini Extra Dry combines a white wine base with herbs, aromatic woods and citrus botanicals. Its restrained sweetness allows its dry, fresh character to stand out. In the glass, its colour ranges from light straw yellow to pale gold.

The aroma reveals delicate notes of raspberry and lemon distillates. Iris and subtle woody notes provide an aromatic backdrop.

After several years of development, Extra Dry was introduced at the beginning of 1900. Today, it is one of the classic ingredients in a Dry Martini. For a gin version, stir one part vermouth with three parts gin over ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. It can also be served chilled or over ice as an aperitif. This bottling contains 15% alcohol and comes in a bottle containing 0.75 litres.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose combines lemon zest, green apple and dried herbs with delicate floral notes. Subtle hints of almond and spice round out the bouquet.
• Palate: The vermouth is fresh and dry on the palate. Citrus and green herbs emerge first, followed by gentle chamomile notes, iris root and a hint of white pepper. The wine base provides structure, while the restrained sweetness keeps the flavour light.
• Finish: Citrus peel and a gentle herbal bitterness linger in the dry finish. A slightly salty nuance accompanies the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of Martini & Rossi is closely linked to Turin and nearby Pessione. In 1863, Alessandro Martini and Teofilo Sola took over an existing business and brought in Luigi Rossi as a partner. Rossi contributed his expertise in vermouth recipes; his early creation was Martini Rosso.

A new production site was established in Pessione in 1864. Its location opposite the railway station on the route from Turin to Genoa made access to the port easier and facilitated trade. Despite the later establishment of international branches, Pessione remained the production centre of Martini & Rossi.
