Extended cask maturation and undiluted bottling define this vintage Cognac from Grande Champagne. The eau-de-vie distilled in 1988 spent decades in the cellars of the Charente before being bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.8%. The Cognac is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Mineral, chalky notes provide a distinctive contrast to the wood spice. On the palate, the Cognac combines a powerful, balanced structure with warm impressions. Its amber colour and elaborate presentation complement its mature character: the 0.7-litre bottle has a gold wax seal on its neck and rests in a wooden box with a gold plaque.

• Nose: On the nose, delicate woody notes meet a distinctly mineral impression reminiscent of chalk.
• Palate: On the palate, spicy oak notes combine with minerality. The structure feels elegant.
• Finish: The long finish remains mineral and reveals subtle toasted notes.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Mauxion family has roots in Houlette dating back to 1575. Its history as a Cognac producer can be traced to Antoine Mauxion, who made eau-de-vie from the yield of his own vineyard in 1743. The practices passed down through the generations include vine growing, winemaking and distillation in copper pot stills. The spirits then mature in French oak casks.

Mauxion Selection chooses its Cognacs according to how they develop during maturation. The collection includes bottlings from the individual crus Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois, offered unblended at cask strength. The subsoil also plays an important role in the Champagne areas: it stores water and releases it slowly during dry summer periods. Long maturation is central to the house's approach, particularly for Cognacs from Grande Champagne.
