Special Features:

METAXA Ouzo combines anise with mastic, an aromatic Greek ingredient that helps shape its distinctive flavour. It is distilled in small batches in stills made entirely of copper. When processing the botanicals, the METAXA Master balances the delicate mastic character with the anise.

Its spicy, herbal and floral aromatic range includes anise, liquorice and iris flowers, as well as an impression of a sea breeze. This Greek spirit is offered at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle.

To serve, pour the ouzo at room temperature over ice and add a little sparkling water. Its clear appearance then turns cloudy and milky white.

• Palate: The ouzo feels velvety on the palate. Anise and mastic combine in a balanced flavour that evokes a sea breeze.

Distillery/Bottler:

The history of the House of METAXA began in Piraeus: in 1885, Spyros Metaxa invested in a distillery and developed a combination of aged wine distillates and sweet Muscat wines. He created METAXA in 1888. After his death, his wife Despina continued to run the business, with their sons later taking on responsibility. This history forms the background of the house; for its ouzo, METAXA uses a distinct composition with anise and mastic.

In 1968, the distillery moved from Piraeus to Kifisia. Its facilities there were modernised in 1990, doubling production capacity. METAXA has been part of the Rémy Cointreau group since 2000. Production expertise is overseen by the METAXA Master; in 2024, Konstantinos Kalpaxidis took on this role as the sixth Master in the house's history.
