Special Features:

Millstone Special #38 is a Dutch single-cask bottling matured entirely for 27 years in an Oloroso sherry cask. The whisky was distilled on 1 May 1998 and bottled on 20 August 2025 at 48.58%. The cask yielded 467 bottles; the whisky retains its natural colour and was not chill-filtered. Because the entire maturation took place in the Oloroso sherry cask, it shaped the whisky throughout rather than merely providing a final finish.

Ripe apricot and sweet cherry open the profile, followed by dried fruit, orange, honey and gentle oak spice. On the palate, dark chocolate, raisins, delicate herbs and dark berries add concentration. Sweetness and mild bitterness remain balanced through the long finish, accompanied by lingering oak, spices and nuts.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals ripe apricot and sweet cherry alongside dried fruit, orange, honey and finely matured oak spice.
• Palate: The whisky is full and complex on the palate, led by dark chocolate, raisins, delicate herbs and concentrated dark berries.
• Finish: The finish is long, balancing sweetness with mild bitterness and sustained by oak, spices and nuts.

Distillery/Bottler:

Millstone is the whisky brand of the family-owned Zuidam Distillers in Baarle-Nassau. Fred and Helene van Zuidam established professional production from 1976 onward; their sons Patrick and Gilbert later took over the management. Patrick began filling the first experimental casks for his whisky project in 1996. The distillate from 1998 therefore dates from an early period in Millstone’s history.

The name Millstone refers to the Dutch windmills that Zuidam uses to mill its grain. A seven-day fermentation and slow double distillation in small copper pot stills provide the foundation for the distillery’s fruity, complex character.
