Special Features:

Millstone Special #33 spent ten years in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. Made from unpeated malt, the whisky was distilled on 28 May 2014 and bottled on 16 July 2024 at 46%. It is not smoky, has not been chill filtered and contains no added colouring.

Maturation in Oloroso casks gives the whisky notes of dark chocolate, cherries, dried fruit, nuts and spicy oak. Sandalwood and vanilla add to this profile, while orange, honey and toffee bring a fruity sweetness.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers sherry notes, dark chocolate, dried fruit and toasted oak, alongside cherry, sandalwood, gentle spice and a hint of caramel.
• Palate: Raisins, dates and dried plums lead on the palate, followed by spicy oak, nuts and a hint of nutmeg. Chocolate and vanilla complement the soft, full-bodied texture.
• Finish: The finish is long and becomes pleasantly dry. Sweet wood, chocolate and delicate toasted notes linger with stewed fruit, oak and a light touch of vanilla.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers BV distilled the whisky in Baarle-Nassau and bottled it after maturation as its own Millstone release. Fred and Hélène van Zuidam began making liqueurs and genever in 1976. Their son Patrick later pursued the idea of producing their own whisky, and the first experimental casks were filled in 1996. The name Millstone refers to the Dutch mills where grain for the brand is ground.

For Millstone, Zuidam ferments the mash for seven days and distils it slowly in small copper stills. This approach encourages the distillate’s fruity character; selected oak casks then give each release its particular maturation character.
