Special Features:

Millstone Special #35 is a peated single malt matured for six years in casks that previously held Rivesaltes. This French sweet wine provides a backdrop for the whisky’s ripe fruit: peat and campfire smoke meet stewed peach, apricot and orange, while citrus adds freshness.

The whisky was distilled on 22 March 2019 and bottled on 5 April 2025. The release comprises 1,507 bottles of 0.7 litres each. Zuidam bottled it at 46% ABV without chill filtration or added colouring; the bottle comes in a tube.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, warm stewed peach and lemon meet campfire smoke. Dark fruit, honey, a little raisin and a wine-like note follow.
• Palate: On the palate, apricot, orange and other citrus fruit mingle with peat smoke. Spiced oak, ripe plum and dried fig round out the fruit-and-smoke character.
• Finish: The finish is long and slightly drying. Smoke lingers alongside dark chocolate, spices and a subtle mineral sweetness.

Distillery/Bottler:

Zuidam Distillers BV makes and bottles Millstone in Baarle-Nassau, near the Belgian border. Fred and Hélène van Zuidam began producing genever and liqueurs in 1976; the family filled its first experimental whisky casks in 1996. The name Millstone refers to the mills used to grind the grain for its whiskies.

For Millstone, Zuidam ferments the mash for seven days before distilling it slowly in small copper stills. Both choices encourage a fruity new-make spirit. Selected cask types then give each release its own maturation character; for Special #35, those casks previously held Rivesaltes wine.
