This ten-year-old Miltonduff belongs to the sherry-led branch of Gordon & MacPhail's Discovery range. The Speyside Single Malt matured in sherry casks and was bottled at 43%. Discovery introduces the independent bottler's portfolio through three flavour profiles—Sherry, Bourbon and Smoky—providing a starting point for exploring different cask influences and flavour styles.

Fruit, chocolate and spices shape this bottling, while freshly cut grass provides a contrast to the rich sherry influence. Its sweet and spicy impressions range from butterscotch and toasted nuts to warming pepper and stewed fruit.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, chocolate and orange marmalade develop into juicy stewed raisins and sweet baked apple. Freshly cut grass provides a subtle counterpoint to the rich sherry influence.
• Palate: On the palate, butterscotch sweets combine with toasted hazelnut. Orange zest, cinnamon and a peppery note that warms the mouth follow, before plum and fig jam unfold.
• Finish: The long finish brings chocolate and stewed fruit, ending with lingering winter spices.

Distillery/Bottler:

Miltonduff Distillery produces this Single Malt in Speyside. According to tradition, the distillery stands on the site of the former grain mill of Pluscarden Abbey; a stone from the abbey is still displayed there today. Between 1967 and 1981, Miltonduff also produced the Single Malt Mosstowie using a Lomond still.

Gordon & MacPhail is the independent bottler of this Miltonduff. The company began as a grocery business in Elgin in 1895. Under John Urquhart, selecting, purchasing and maturing whiskies from nearby distilleries became a central part of its activities. Over four generations, the family developed expertise in matching different distilleries' spirits with its own casks, made to specification. Cask selection and subsequent maturation are therefore essential parts of the company's work.
