Special Features:

Tropical and continental maturation shape this Monymusk’s 23 years in cask. Made from molasses at Jamaica’s Clarendon distillery, the rum was distilled in Vendome Double Retort Stills. It then matured in an American oak ex-bourbon barrel, first in a tropical climate and later in a continental climate.

Single cask 27854 bears the marque MBK. Between cask filling on 11 November 1998 and bottling on 5 September 2022, more than 36% of its contents evaporated as the so-called angel’s share. The remaining rum yielded a worldwide release of 205 bottles. It contains 61 grams of esters and a total of 541.5 grams of volatile substances per hectolitre of pure alcohol.

Rest & Be Thankful bottled the rum in Scotland at its cask strength of 57.1%. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured and contains no added flavourings. The 0.7-litre bottle comes in gift packaging whose tropical plant and animal motifs echo the bottle’s design.

• Nose: On the nose, tropical fruit notes mingle with vanilla and a hint of oak.
• Palate: The rum is full-bodied and rich on the palate. Rock sugar and spice notes meet a subtle sweetness.
• Finish: The long finish fades with delicate toffee notes and a light touch of caramel.

Distillery/Bottler:

Monymusk comes from the Clarendon distillery in Lionel Town, in the Jamaican parish of Clarendon. Its name is linked to the sugar estate of the same name, which supplies the distillery with molasses. The distillery originally belonged to the Monymusk Sugar Factory, which began operating in 1901. It has been managed by National Rums of Jamaica since 1980.

Rest & Be Thankful is an independent bottler with roots in selecting single casks of Scotch whisky. Behind the brand are Eamonn Jones, Romain Larcheron and Thomas Picard of Fox Fitzgerald. Its Jamaican single cask range focuses on individually selected rum casks. The brand name links two places of the same name in Scotland and Jamaica, connecting the two origins represented in its range.
