Special Features:

Natterjack combines Irish whiskey production with an American-inspired cask finish. The whiskies are married in cask. The triple-distilled blend first matures in ex-bourbon casks before being finished in new American oak casks. These virgin oak casks had not previously held another spirit: fresh oak adds its influence to the maturation in previously used bourbon casks.

The grain composition is 80% corn and 20% malted barley. The whiskey is bottled at 40% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle. Natterjack takes its name from the natterjack toad, the only toad species native to Ireland.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, vanilla, apple and cinnamon mingle with citrus fruit.
• Palate: The whiskey feels smooth and almost creamy on the palate. Orange and orange peel meet spices, cedarwood and tobacco notes.
• Finish: The finish feels clean and fresh.

Distillery/Bottler:

Natterjack is the creation of Gortinore Distillers & Co., founded by Aidan Mehigan together with his father and two friends. Natterjack was launched in 2019 as the company's first whiskey. The connection between both sides of the Atlantic shapes the concept: triple distillation and maturation in ex-bourbon casks are complemented by new American oak casks, which also play an important role in bourbon production.

For its distillery project, Gortinore acquired the former grain mill The Old Mill in Kilmacthomas, County Waterford. The building had previously been used by Flahavan’s to make oat products. In 2019, the company planned a distillery there with three copper pot stills, a cask warehouse and a visitor centre.
