Nikka Yoichi Single Malt

Special features: The Nikka Yoichi Single Malt is produced using traditional methods, with distillation occurring in pot stills directly heated with coal. This technique allows for capturing the unique character of the whisky, shaped by the coastal location of the Yoichi distillery on the island of Hokkaido. The maturation takes place in a combination of ex-sherry casks and new American oak barrels, resulting in a balanced flavor.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: Full-bodied and smooth, with peaty and maritime notes, complemented by fruity aromas of candied lemon, spicy ginger, and floral nuances.
  • Palate: Robust and strong, characterized by peaty and fruity notes reminiscent of melon and kiwi, along with a salty undertone.
  • Finish: Long and silky, with fruity hints of pear, mirabelle, plum, and ripe apple, aromatic nuances of coriander and dill, as well as a salty, smoky finish.

Distillery/Bottler: The Nikka distillery was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, a pioneer of Japanese whisky production who learned his craft in Scotland. The Yoichi distillery is known for its traditional production methods and the use of local spring water, contributing to the high quality and distinctive flavor of the whiskies.
