A finish in a small Mizunara Octave cask shapes this anniversary release from North British. Duncan Taylor brings together Scottish Single Grain whisky and the influence of Japanese oak. Part of The Octave range, this edition celebrates the 50th anniversary of Kirsch Import.

The whisky was distilled on 24 January 2011 and bottled on 16 September 2026 at 15 years old. Cask 5952066 yielded 85 numbered bottles, each containing 0.7 litres at 53.4% alcohol. The whisky retains its natural colour and was bottled at natural strength.

Alongside sweet cereal and caramel notes, the whisky develops drier woody spice with a little time, recalling sandalwood and mild pepper.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Sweet cereal notes mingle with vanilla, light caramel and delicate spice.
• Palate: The whisky is full-bodied and clearly structured on the palate. Toffee and honey accompany lightly toasted nuts, with exotic wood notes adding a subtle accent.
• Finish: The medium-long to long finish is pleasantly dry. Warm, gently spicy wood notes linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

North British traces its origins to Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John Crabbie joining forces in 1885. The three entrepreneurs owned their own whisky brands and wanted to secure their supply of grain whisky themselves. The distillery began operating in September 1887 and was run as a cooperative over the following century.

Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky Limited in Huntly is responsible for the maturation and bottling of this edition. The family-owned company began in Glasgow, trading and brokering whisky casks. Over the decades, it built up an extensive stock of old and rare Scotch whiskies. In Huntly, Duncan Taylor has its own cask storage and bottling facilities, as well as a cooperage.
