Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 48% | Chill filtration: No | Colouring: No
Special Features:
The 17-year-old North British Single Grain combines long-aged Lowland grain whisky with the influence of sherry casks. Thompson Bros. bottled it at 48%, without chill filtration or added colouring.
Its profile features sherry, raisins and other dried fruits alongside toffee, vanilla, caramel, honey, dark chocolate, spices and oak. Soft cereal sweetness and a creamy texture underscore the character of the mature grain whisky.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose reveals raisins, dates and dark dried fruits with caramel, toffee and vanilla. Chocolate orange, polished wood and delicate spices complete the aroma.
- Palate: The whisky is soft and creamy on the palate. Dark caramel, burnt sugar, raisins, figs and milk chocolate combine with nuts, dark fruits and a pleasant spiciness.
- Finish: The finish is long, sweet and spicy, with lingering notes of toffee, oak, dried fruit and delicate cocoa.
Distillery/Bottler:
The North British Distillery in Edinburgh distilled the grain whisky, while Thompson Bros. selected the sherry casks and handled the bottling. North British was founded in 1885 by Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John Crabbie. The jointly owned distillery was established to supply their companies with grain spirit and began production in 1887.
Brothers Phil and Simon Thompson established their own small distillery in Dornoch with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. While the Dornoch spirit, first distilled in 2017, matured in cask, the company’s independent rum and whisky bottlings developed into its principal line of business.
