Special Features:

Octomore 16.1 is the reference point for the 16 series. This five-year-old Islay single malt was distilled from 100% Scottish mainland-grown Concerto barley malt peated to 101.4 PPM. The whisky matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks, bringing intense peat smoke together with sweetness, fruit, saline maritime notes and minerality.

The entire maturation took place on Islay. The whisky was bottled with Islay spring water at 59.3%, without chill filtration or added colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose opens with sea spray and orchard fruit enveloped in delicate peat smoke. Dried heather and chamomile follow, alongside vanilla pod, toasted almonds, cedarwood, smoked paprika and a hint of iodine.
• Palate: Gentle peat smoke emerges first on the palate, followed by salted caramel, honeydew melon and apricot. Sweet malt notes mingle with cinnamon and star anise before sea salt, toffee, chocolate and coconut appear, accompanied by earthy minerality and lingering smoke.
• Finish: The finish is long and carried by the characteristic peat smoke. Black pepper, toffee and sea salt linger.

Distillery/Bottler:

Bruichladdich Distillery was founded by the Harvey brothers in 1881. After closing in 1994, it resumed operations in 2001. The distillery develops and distils its Islay single malts; the whiskies mature and are bottled on the island. Octomore is its extremely heavily peated range. Octomore 16.1 is a distillery bottling from Bruichladdich Distillery.
