Old Pulteney 13 Years Traveller's Exclusive was introduced to international travel retail in 2023. After initially maturing in American oak casks, the whisky received a finish in Spanish oak. This distillery bottling contains 1 litre and is bottled at 43%.

The two cask phases bring together vanilla and coconut with toffee, fruit and warming spices. Candied almonds, salted caramel and a salty coastal note complement its creamy sweetness, giving this travel-retail edition a distinct character within the Old Pulteney range.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, baked and caramelised apple meet warm vanilla custard, toffee and cinnamon pastries. Cranberry, a hint of pepper, light citrus notes and stone fruit add to the aroma, with dry oak providing a contrast.
• Palate: The palate has an oily texture, with raspberry jam, honey, toffee and butterscotch. Nutmeg and other baking spices accompany caramelised popcorn, fruit jelly, dried fruit and spicy oak. Coconut, toasted almonds, orange and vanilla round out the flavours, joined by a delicate sea-salt note.
• Finish: The medium-to-long finish brings gentle spice, honey, dark fruit and dried fruit, accompanied by pleasant tannic dryness and a soft sea-salt note.

Distillery/Bottler:

James Henderson founded Pulteney Distillery in 1826 in the port town of Wick, where the herring trade was growing at the time. With no road connections, barley arrived in Wick by ship, and whisky also left by sea. The distillery produces Old Pulteney there; this 13-year-old Traveller's Exclusive is a distillery bottling. Inver House Distillers acquired the distillery in 1995.

The water comes from Loch Hempriggs. After a long fermentation in stainless-steel washbacks, the fermented wash is distilled in two copper stills. The wash still has an unusually flat top, while a traditional worm-tub condenser contributes to the body of the spirit. The casks are then stored in the cool, humid warehouses on the coast at Wick.
