The 2012 Flotilla release brings together Old Pulteney’s coastal character and maturation in American oak casks that previously held bourbon. The whisky matured for more than a decade and was released as a ten-year-old single malt in the limited Flotilla series, which appears annually.

Light fruit, sweet oak and spice complement its maritime character. This distillery bottling contains 0.7 litres, has an alcohol strength of 46% and comes in gift packaging. It is not chill-filtered and contains no colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, sea spray and green apple meet caramel, chocolate and cinnamon.
• Palate: The palate brings vanilla, red chilli pepper, chocolate biscuit, orchard fruit and malt; a light oak note complements the dry, spicy structure.
• Finish: Coconut and apple linger on the finish alongside salty minerality, malty sweetness and dry oak.

Distillery/Bottler:

James Henderson founded Pulteney Distillery in 1826 in the Scottish port town of Wick. At the time, the town was closely tied to herring fishing; barley reached the distillery by sea, and whisky also left Wick by ship. The distillery has belonged to Inver House Distillers Ltd. since 1995.

To make Old Pulteney, Pulteney Distillery uses water from Loch Hempriggs and produces the spirit in two copper stills. The unusual shape of the first still influences the character of the spirit, while a traditional worm-tub condenser contributes to its body. The whisky matures in warehouses near the coast at Wick. Flotilla Vintage 2012 is a distillery bottling of this single malt.
