Admiral's Cask pairs five years of oak cask maturation with an unusual presentation: the glass bottle sits inside a barrel-shaped casing on a stand and comes in a transparent gift box. The decorative barrel is therefore not the maturation vessel. This version contains 0.7 litres of rum at 40% alcohol.

The rum comes from Panama and matures for at least five years in oak casks. Sweet aromas of vanilla and honey and a rich, buttery taste define its character. It can be enjoyed neat, over ice or in cocktails.

The name and barrel design draw on the maritime legend surrounding Admiral Lord Nelson. According to the story, his body was brought back to England in a rum barrel after the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Sailors are said to have secretly drunk from it during the voyage, giving rise to the expression Tapping the Admiral.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose offers sweet vanilla and honey. Rose petal jam and chocolate complement the bouquet.
• Palate: The rum is rich and buttery on the palate. Milk chocolate, candied melon and jam mingle with sweet coffee, rose liqueur and sweet pumpkin pie. Some oak and a hint of cinnamon round out these impressions.
• Finish: The medium-length finish remains sweet and full-bodied.

Distillery/Bottler:

OSA Fine Spirits became known for whisky in a golf-ball-shaped bottle: the first bottling of Clubhouse Whisky appeared in 1969. Combining spirits with distinctive bottle design remained a hallmark of the company. The Gorton family later expanded the range to include gin, vodka and five-year-old rum from a partner distillery in Panama.

Admiral's Cask was the first rum in the OSA Fine Spirits range. Alongside the barrel presentation, the company also offers the same rum in the diamond-shaped bottle of the Admiral's Diamond range. The different shapes therefore change the presentation, not the rum inside.
