Special Features:

For Alte Erdbeere, Prinz combines fully ripe fruit with several years of maturation. The distillate first ages in stoneware before receiving a finish in a Prinz wooden cask. The strawberry distillate is produced by vacuum distillation. The spirit has an amber hue and belongs to the Alten Sorten range.

Prinz makes its own dried-fruit extracts to refine the distillates in the Alten Sorten range. These contribute to the range’s gentle, mellow fruit sweetness. Alte Erdbeere can be enjoyed at 17 to 21 °C from a stemmed schnapps glass.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense strawberry aromas lead on the nose, accompanied by light wood notes.
• Palate: Alte Erdbeere is full-bodied and fruity on the palate, with restrained sweetness.
• Finish: The fruity flavour persists on the finish before fading gently.

Distillery/Bottler:

Fein-Brennerei Prinz is based in Hörbranz, close to the Austrian shore of Lake Constance. Its history began in 1886, when Thomas Prinz I. founded a cider-making business and cooperage. In 1921, he registered the distilling business. Since 2017, brothers Thomas IV. and Maximilian Prinz have run the family business in its fourth generation.

In 2013, Prinz established Obsthof Leiblachtal as its own site for processing fresh fruit. The strawberries undergo visual and sensory checks before processing. Since they do not continue to ripen after harvesting, the timing of the harvest and immediate processing are particularly important. The distillery has used vacuum distillation since 2004: reduced pressure lowers the boiling point by around 30 °C, allowing gentler treatment of the fruit aromas.
