Special Features:

Alte Williams-Christbirne combines the characteristic aromas of the pear variety with a restrained wooden-cask influence. The distillate spends several years in stoneware before ageing for several months in wooden casks. The cask character complements the fruit without overshadowing it.

Ripe Williams pears are checked, cored and destemmed for the distillate. After mashing and fermentation, the mash undergoes an initial distillation followed by a second, refining distillation. The spirit has an alcohol content of 41%, and this bottle contains 0.7 litres. Serve in a stemmed glass at 17 to 21 °C.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals an intense, layered aroma of Williams pears.
• Palate: On the palate, the pear fruit is full-bodied and soft, with mild impressions alongside dry, spicy notes.
• Finish: The pear fruit and the dry, spicy notes linger on the finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Fein-Brennerei Prinz is based in Hörbranz on the Austrian shore of Lake Constance. Traditional meadow orchards are a feature of the region and provide the foundation for its fruit spirits. The family business traces its history back to 1886 and is now run by the fourth generation. A farm with an inn developed first into a cooperage and a fruit-pressing business, and later into the distillery of today.

Prinz distils its spirits twice and also uses vacuum technology in the distillery. Its in-house Hafele-Brand process includes the precise separation of distillation fractions. Raw-material selection, fruit-mash processing and distillation are therefore geared towards preserving the character of each fruit.
