Special Features:

Reservoir uses only rye grown around Richmond for this whiskey. Its mash is 100% rye. The whiskey matures in quarter casks with a heavily charred interior, known as Alligator Char, and is bottled at 50%. Each bottle is individually numbered and hand-sealed with wax. Its pronounced grain spice takes the lead; despite the sweet aromas, the rye itself is not particularly sweet. The distillery’s bourbon is milder and sweeter.

Sweet impressions of honey and crème brûlée sit alongside orange peel and rye spice. Dark chocolate, anise and pepper emerge on the palate; the finish turns dry, leaving cola and molasses. The whiskey is not chill-filtered and contains no colouring.

• Nose: On the nose, honey and crème brûlée mingle with rye spice and yeast, alongside orange peel.
• Palate: On the palate, dark chocolate and anise meet pronounced pepper spice.
• Finish: The finish turns dry and leaves notes of cola and molasses.

Distillery/Bottler:

Reservoir Distillery was founded in 2008 in Richmond, Virginia, and is based on Summit Avenue. Each of its three original whiskeys uses just one grain: wheat for Wheat, corn for Bourbon and rye for Rye. The distillery sources its rye from around the city and handles mashing, distillation, maturation and bottling itself. Dave Cuttino is the founder, and Mary Allison heads distillation.
