Special Features:

For this Shrubb, Rhum J.M blends white rum with rum aged for three years. Bitter orange peel and spices are macerated in the blend, releasing their aromas as they steep in the rum. The result is an orange liqueur that combines citrus fruit with a rounded, spicy character.

The liqueur has an alcohol content of 35% and can be enjoyed over ice or with sparkling mineral water. It also pairs with Champagne: in a Shrubb Royal, a piece of orange peel squeezed over the drink completes the mixture.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Candied orange, cocoa bean, vanilla and nutmeg mingle on the nose. Sweet, syrupy orange peel and a fresh grapefruit note add to the aromas.
• Palate: The opening is powerful and distinctly spicy. Dried orange peel brings a tart note, balanced by a rounded, sweet and creamy texture along with vanilla.
• Finish: Pronounced sweetness remains on the finish. Bitter orange flavours linger for a long time.

Distillery/Bottler:

The Distillerie de Fonds-Préville is located in Macouba in northeastern Martinique, at the foot of Montagne Pelée between the Roches and Macouba rivers. Jean-Marie Martin converted the sugar factory there into a distillery in 1845. His initials gave Rhum J.M its name. The Crassous de Médeuil family later took over the business, which has belonged to the G.B.H. group since 2002.

The distillery uses fresh sugar cane to make its rhum agricole. More than three quarters of the cane comes from the immediate surroundings and is crushed as soon as it arrives. J.M distils the fermented sugar cane juice in two copper Creole columns. Its work with aged rums also includes preparing casks in-house: the distillery chars some of the oak casks it uses itself.
