Special Features:

Maturation in re-charred ex-wine casks made from American and French oak shapes this three-year-old Australian single malt. Riverbourne Batch 1 is part of That Boutique-y Whisky Company’s Australia Series, launched in April 2021, and was bottled at 50% in 0.5-litre bottles. The whisky is non-chill-filtered and contains no colouring.

Red berries, plum, orchard fruit, dried fruit and pomegranate form the fruity core, while vanilla, honey, caramel and cocoa provide sweet accents. Black tea, fruit tea, tobacco, rosemary and raspberry leaves combine with cinnamon, clove and spicy oak. A delicate hint of smoke remains in the background. Malt and freshly ground grain complement the rustic, earthy and spirit-driven character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Preserved lemon and honey meet Gunpowder tea and tobacco on the nose.
• Palate: On the palate, warming black tea is reminiscent of a hot toddy.
• Finish: The finish develops spicy and herbal notes and lingers for a long time.

Distillery/Bottler:

Riverbourne Distillery operates in Jingera, in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is run by Martin Pye, a third-generation pharmacist. He uses different yeast strains and favours carefully managed, re-charred ex-wine casks with restrained wood activity, allowing the character of the spirit to remain intact. That Boutique-y Whisky Company independently bottled the whisky as Batch 1 of its first Australia Series.
