Special Features:

Macerated pineapple and selected spices give this Rhum Arrangé its character. Its base is white rum from the Rivière du Mât distillery on Réunion. Steeping the fruit and spices in the rum allows their flavours to infuse into it.

The Arrangé Ananas Caramélisé has an amber colour with copper highlights. Bottled at 35% alcohol in a 0.7-litre bottle, it can be enjoyed neat at room temperature or over ice. This recipe won a gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole 2020.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Pineapple leads the nose, mingling with a dessert-like sweetness. Orange and mango add to the fruit, while lilac and lavender provide floral accents. A light spiciness sits in the background.
• Palate: The liqueur is full-bodied and distinctly fruit-forward on the palate. Generous pineapple is joined by papaya and pomegranate, along with clove honey and cedarwood.
• Finish: The medium-length finish remains fruity and sweet.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1886, Rivière du Mât is one of Réunion’s oldest distilleries still in operation. Located in Saint-Benoît on the east coast, it processes molasses from sugar cane grown on the island. Its name comes from a local legend: the mast of a stranded ship is said to have protruded from a riverbed for many years, giving the river its name.

The distillery uses open fermentation vessels and a distillation column with multiple plates. By controlling distillation, the team influences the separation of flavour compounds and thus the character of its rums. Since 2011, Rivière du Mât has also treated distillation residues biologically: anaerobic digestion produces biogas for steam generation. Recovered nutrients are used as fertiliser on sugar cane fields.
