Riviere du Mat Arrange Rhum Banana

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 35%

Special Features:

This Arrangé draws on La Réunion's tradition of infusing rum with fruit and spices. Its base is white rum from Distillerie Rivière du Mât, in which bananas and selected spices are macerated. The resulting rum liqueur combines banana fruit with vanilla and spicy notes.

In the glass, the liqueur is amber with copper highlights. It contains 35% alcohol and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres. Enjoy it neat at room temperature or over ice in a short glass. Natural sediment may occur; the bottle should not be shaken.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The liqueur initially offers sweet, spicy rum aromas with plenty of cinnamon and candied ginger. Baked banana and vanilla pods then emerge, with the banana also recalling a flambéed dessert.
• Palate: The palate is rounded and delicate. Banana gives a soft, melting sensation, accompanied by caramel chocolates, apricots, honey and cinnamon in the background.
• Finish: The medium-length finish remains sweet, recalling vanilla sugar and ripe bananas.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1886, Rivière du Mât is one of the oldest distilleries still operating on La Réunion. The distillery is located in Saint-Benoît. It uses only rum from its own production for its Arrangés.

The distillery uses open fermentation vessels and a distillation column with multiple plates. By carefully controlling distillation, the team creates different aromatic profiles. Since 2011, its working practices have also included recovering value from distillation residues: fermentation produces biogas to generate steam for the distillery. The fertilising nutrients recovered in the process are returned to the sugar cane fields.
