Riviere du Mat Arrange Rhum Vanilla

Volume: 0.7 litres | Alcohol content: 35% | Chill filtration: Yes

Special Features:

Arrangé Vanille des Tropiques brings together rum from Rivière du Mât and an infusion of vanilla pods and selected spices. Its recipe draws on La Réunion's tradition of Rhums Arrangés, in which rum is flavoured with fruit or spices. White rum from the company's own distillery forms the base of this bottling.

The liqueur is bottled at 35% in bottles containing 0.7 litres. It can be enjoyed neat at room temperature or over ice, and also works well in cocktails. A natural sediment may form in the bottle.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose recalls vanilla cream with a light caramel note. Juicy tropical fruit, creamy honey and cloves add further aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, the liqueur is soft, full-bodied and sweet, with a smooth texture and spicy accents. Intense vanilla ice cream combines with candied pineapple, apricots, milk chocolate and baking spices.
• Finish: Sweet vanilla notes linger through the medium-length finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Founded in 1886, Rivière du Mât is one of the oldest distilleries still operating on La Réunion. It is located in Saint-Benoît in the east of the island. Its Arrangés complement the rum range with specialities that reflect the island's tradition of combining rum, fruit and spices.

The distillery uses open fermentation vessels. The distillation team then controls the separation of aromatic components through a column with multiple plates, shaping the different rum profiles. Since 2011, Rivière du Mât has also used the fermentation of distillation residues to produce biogas. The gas generates steam, while recovered nutrients are used as fertiliser on sugar cane fields.
