For this Art of Rum edition, Savanna brings together two distinct bases for rum production: fresh sugarcane juice and molasses. Master Blender Thierry Grondin blended an eight-year-old rhum agricole distilled in 2014 with two aged molasses rums. All three components matured in former Cognac barriques made from French oak.

The rums used were distilled in 2014, 2015 and 2016. The blend was bottled in 2023 at 54%, with a release of 2,500 bottles. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Design is integral to the Art of Rum series: contemporary artists from Réunion create the visual identity for the Master Blender’s compositions. This edition was developed with Yann Le Gall. The bottle contains 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, orange blossom and violets mingle with blossom honey and sweet milk chocolate notes.
• Palate: The palate reveals gentle woody notes and warm cinnamon spice with a hint of roasted hazelnuts. Lightly toasted dried fruit then emerges. Dried nectarines and dates, along with an impression of sweet cinnamon pastries, complete the flavour profile.
• Finish: Chocolate with nuts, dried fruit and floral accents linger through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Savanna was founded in 1870 in the district of the same name in Saint-Paul on Réunion. Today, the distillery is located in Bois-Rouge near Saint-André. Its range includes both rhum agricole made from sugarcane juice and traditional molasses rums.

Savanna uses a variety of fermentation and distillation methods. For its rhum agricole Créol 52, sugarcane juice is distilled in a copper column still. For Grand Arôme Lontan, by contrast, the distillery combines a long molasses fermentation with distillation in a Savalle column still. These different rum types reflect the breadth of its production; the Art of Rum series focuses on Thierry Grondin’s selection and blending of matured rums.
