Special Features:

Créol Straight retains its original distillation strength: no water is added to reduce the rum to a lower drinking strength. For this edition, Savanna used sugarcane from Bois Rouge harvested in 2021. After two days of fermentation, the fermented juice was distilled in the copper Savalle column.

Before bottling in August 2022, the white rum rested in a tank for nine months. This resting period is not cask ageing. The edition comprises 6,500 bottles of 0.5 litres and bears batch number CS.11.21. At 68.7%, it retains its powerful, distinctly vegetal character.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Bold sugarcane meets banana, pear, raspberry and yellow plum. With air, violet, menthol-like and camphor-like freshness, and olive brine emerge. Juicy citrus notes with hints of green leaves complement the aroma.
• Palate: The vegetal character takes centre stage on the palate. Freshly pressed sugarcane juice gives way to fermented notes. Sweet-tasting sugarcane fibres and pepper appear first, followed by steamed vegetables and a hint of green olive brine. Soft, sweet impressions of anise, liquorice and citrus fruit also emerge.
• Finish: The long finish remains vegetal and develops an almost resinous quality. Herbs and fruity sweetness complement the balanced finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

In 1992, Distillerie Savanna moved from Saint-Paul to Bois Rouge near Saint-André in northeastern La Réunion, right beside the local sugar factory. It has marketed rum under its own brand since 2003; previously, most of its production went to other bottlers.

Savanna processes both sugarcane juice and molasses to produce different rum styles, including agricole, light rum and intensely aromatic Grand Arôme. The distillery cultivates its own yeasts and studies their influence on fermentation. Its equipment includes various distillation columns and pot stills. The copper Savalle column is also used for Créol Straight.
