Special features: On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Savanna distillery in La Réunion, the Savanna Rhum Origine 1870 was created. This limited Rhum Vieux de la Réunion – Hors d’Âge is a masterpiece made from six different Rhums Traditionnels and Grand Arômes, aged between ten and 16 years in former Cognac and Port wine barrels. With only 1,200 bottles worldwide, it is a true rarity.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Complex aromas of ripe fruits, accompanied by notes of molasses and licorice, underlined with a hint of menthol and a slight waxiness.
- Palate: Harmonious balance with dominant fruit and licorice notes, complemented by the characteristic Rancio influence of Port wine.
- Finish: Round and pleasant, with remarkable length, typical of very old molasses rums. The influences of the Savalle column and the Port wine barrels add depth and complexity.
Distillery/Bottler: The Distillerie de Savanna, founded in 1870 near Saint-Paul on La Réunion, is known for producing authentic rum. In 1992, the distillery moved next to the sugar factory Sucrerie de Bois-Rouge in Saint-André. It processes both fresh sugarcane juice and molasses and uses traditional distillation methods to create multifaceted flavors.
