Special Features:

Three malted grains form the basis of this Shortcross Irish Poitín: the barley, wheat and rye are all grown in Ireland. Slow distillation takes place in a small copper hybrid still designed specifically for poitín. Contact between the alcohol vapour and the copper reduces harsh notes and helps create a rounder flavour.

This bottling combines fresh fruit notes with a rich, creamy texture. It has an alcohol content of 46% and comes in a bottle containing 0.7 litres. Its character can be explored neat, with a little water or as a base for cocktails.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, the poitín recalls fresh fruit salad with apples and pears. A light vanilla note and toasted oats add further aromas.
• Palate: The palate is rich and creamy. Sweetness and delicate green notes accompany an impression of blackberry crumble.
• Finish: Pronounced sweetness lingers through the long finish.

Distillery/Bottler:

Shortcross comes from Rademon Estate Distillery, located on Fiona and David Boyd-Armstrong's historic family estate near Downpatrick in County Down, Northern Ireland. The couple founded the distillery in 2012. After visiting distilleries in several parts of the world, they commissioned German coppersmith Christian Carl to build their first installation: a 450-litre copper still with two rectifying columns, each with seven plates.

Production began with Shortcross Gin, launched in April 2014, followed by the first whiskey production in 2015. The brand takes its name from nearby Crossgar, whose Irish name means “short cross”. Alongside gin and whiskey, the range includes this poitín distilled from three malted grains.
