Special Features:

Maturation on Sylt gives Jöl en Reek an unusual production journey: the barley comes from Morsum, the peat from the Braderup Heath and the spring water also from Sylt. The single malt is distilled in Bavaria before maturing in Tinnum in former bourbon, sherry and rum casks. Its name means “fire and smoke” in Sölring.

Peat and smoke sit alongside caramel, caramelised almonds and oak. Iodine and seaweed add a maritime note, while salty spice and flame-charred wood balance the smoky sweetness on the palate. Peat, pepper, nutmeg and heather linger in the long finish.

• Nose: The nose brings pronounced peat smoke, caramel, caramelised almonds and oak, with lighter hints of iodine, seaweed and white pepper.
• Palate: On the palate, smoky sweetness and flame-charred wood meet delicate spice and salt.
• Finish: The long finish lingers with peat, pepper, nutmeg and heather.

Distillery/Bottler:

Lantenhammer distils the whisky in Bavaria; Jöl en Reek then matures in casks on Sylt. Amalie and Josef Lantenhammer founded the distillery in 1928 to produce gentian spirits. Florian Stetter began distilling whisky there in 1999. For this bottling, SILD brings together the Bavarian distillery, ingredients from Sylt and cask maturation on the island rather than at the place of distillation.
