Special Features:

Juniper is at the heart of Sipsmith London Dry Gin’s ten-botanical recipe. It is joined by orange and lemon peel, coriander seeds, orris root, liquorice root, angelica root, cinnamon, cassia bark and almonds. English wheat spirit forms the base and is distilled with the botanicals in copper stills. This bottling contains 0.7 litres and has an alcohol content of 41.6%.

The ingredients play different roles: sun-dried citrus peel brings freshness, while cinnamon and cassia bark contribute warm spice. Liquorice root supports the impression of sweetness without giving the gin a liquorice flavour. Almonds contribute primarily to the creamy texture. The recipe thus combines a dry juniper core with floral, citrus and spicy facets. The gin suits both a Martini and a Gin & Tonic.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Floral aromas reminiscent of a summer meadow appear first. Soft, rounded juniper and lively citrus freshness follow.
• Palate: Dry juniper opens the palate. Lemon tart and orange marmalade then emerge before the flavours come together. Almonds give the gin a creamy texture, while liquorice root supports a subtle sweetness.
• Finish: The finish starts dry, then reveals spicy juniper and a hint of lemon tart. Coriander is particularly noticeable here, with citrus notes and a hint of black pepper.

Distillery/Bottler:

Sipsmith opened a copper distillery in London in 2009, bringing this form of distillation back to the city after 189 years. Master Distiller Jared Brown found historical inspiration for the recipe in the 18th-century distilling book The Compleat Body of Distilling. The distillery combines this heritage with small-batch production.

Sipsmith uses the One-Shot method: each still receives only the quantity of botanicals needed for a single batch. No flavour concentrate is produced to be diluted with additional neutral spirit after distillation. The botanicals steep in the spirit overnight, usually for around 14 hours. During the subsequent distillation, the heart is separated from the heads and tails, then diluted with water to bottling strength.
