Batch L002, also known as Batch 2, shows Smögen's heavily peated style after nine years of maturation exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels. The whisky was bottled in 2022 at 51.4% ABV in 0.5-litre bottles. The name 90 Proof identifies the range; this bottling's alcohol strength is 51.4%.

Bourbon-cask maturation leaves room for the distillery's smoky character. Apple and pear, citrus, dry hay, salty coastal notes and nutty spice shape the profile. The whisky is neither chill-filtered nor coloured.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pear and apple meet dry hay and coastal smoke.
• Palate: On the palate, peat smoke and salty coastal notes mingle with bright citrus, nutty spice, butter and peppermint tea with candy sugar. Pepper adds a further spicy accent.
• Finish: The long, rather dry finish retains its peat smoke, with lemon and salt lingering.

Distillery/Bottler:

Pär Caldenby established Smögen Whisky on Sweden's west coast to make a weighty, smoky single malt using traditional methods. In Hunnebostrand, the distillery uses small, directly fired copper stills, worm-tub condensers and long fermentation times. These methods are geared towards a weighty style; forgoing chill filtration retains oils and esters in the whisky. Smögen Whisky AB also produced Batch L002 itself and bottled the mature whisky as a distillery bottling.
