Special Features:

Smokehead centres on the powerful peat smoke of an Islay Single Malt. The distillery behind the brand remains unnamed. This bottling combines earthy smoke with pungent spice and sweet fruit notes. A sea-salt note adds another dimension. A golden skull motif adorns the black bottle.

The whisky matures in Bourbon Barrels and is bottled at 43% alcohol in 0.35-litre bottles. It is not chill-filtered and contains colouring.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, pronounced woody notes and earthy peat smoke combine with intense spice. Pungent cinnamon and ginger sit alongside sweet plum jam and fresh lemon zest.
• Palate: On the palate, the smoke feels hot and distinctly peppery before sweet honey notes emerge towards the end.
• Finish: The finish reveals star anise and lemongrass, accompanied by a mandarin note.

Distillery/Bottler:

The independent bottler Ian Macleod Distillers is behind Smokehead. The company grew out of Ian Macleod & Company Limited, founded in 1933 and acquired by the Russell family in 1963. This brought whisky trading, blending and bottling together under one roof.

With the acquisition of Glengoyne in 2003, the company expanded its activities to include its own distillery; Tamdhu followed in 2011. Smokehead was launched in 2006 and focuses on heavily peated single malt from an unnamed Islay distillery.
