Smokehead Twisted Stout gives smoky Islay Single Malt a finishing period in casks that previously held stout beer. The whisky is made from fully malted barley and distilled twice in pot stills with swan necks. Several years in different bourbon casks are followed by several months in former stout casks. This combination brings together powerful smoke, creamy and malty impressions, chocolate and roasted notes.

Twisted Stout was introduced in October 2021 as a limited edition. It is bottled at 43% alcohol, is not chill-filtered and contains colouring. The bottle holds 0.7 litres and comes in gift packaging.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose is intense, combining dark chocolate and caramel with sea spray. Sweet toffee notes and dark sugar syrup add to the aromas.
• Palate: On the palate, salty smoke and dry-roasted nuts meet the sweetness of toasted marshmallows. Vanilla ice cream, roasted coffee and citrus notes complement the powerful flavour.
• Finish: The finish feels rounded, with wood smoke, spices and toasted biscuits shaping the lingering flavours.

Distillery/Bottler:

Smokehead is a brand owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, launched in 2006. Its Single Malt comes from an undisclosed distillery on Islay. Rather than focusing on the distillery name, the brand emphasises distinctly peaty whisky and different cask influences. Alongside Twisted Stout, the range includes bottlings influenced by rum, sherry and tequila casks.

Rock music has been part of the brand's identity for years. From 2009, Smokehead became involved in the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards and the Marshall Ultimate Band Contest. The limited Smokehead Rock Edition followed in 2012. With its finishing period in former beer casks, Twisted Stout continues the series of distinctive editions.
