Special Features:

This ten-year-old Speyside blended malt was distilled in 2013 and matured in an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead. Claxton's bottled it in 2024 at 50%, without added colouring or chill filtration.

The bottling belongs to the tenth release of the Exploration Series. For this range, Claxton's uses standard round bottles rather than the flat bottles of its Warehouse ranges and places a gold-coloured collectible coin beneath the foil of each bottle.

Dark fruit and sherry sweetness complement the interplay of smoke, baked goods, white pepper and vanilla. Malt, oak and spicy, herbaceous peat also emerge on the palate.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: The nose reveals smoky shortbread, white pepper, sponge cake and vanilla.
• Palate: The whisky opens sweet and malty on the palate; oak is followed by a wave of spicy, herbaceous peat.
• Finish: The finish remains peaty but without a pronounced smoky note, fading with slightly sweet, peppery spice and shortbread.

Distillery/Bottler:

Claxton's operates as an independent bottler at Dalswinton Bond in Dumfries and Galloway. Former stone and grain barns whose history stretches back to the 19th century have been restored there and converted into traditional dunnage warehouses and modern racked warehouses. Casks of different sizes and types are sourced worldwide from specialist producers and selected to suit each maturation.

The Exploration Series focuses on approachable single-cask bottlings from different Scottish whisky regions. Smoke on the Spey belongs to the tenth release in this range; Claxton's bottled the whisky at 50%.
