After its main maturation, this ten-year-old Speyside Single Malt spent eleven months finishing in European oak Oloroso sherry hogsheads. James Eadie released it in 2024 at 48.3%. Dark fruit, chocolate and spice combine with juicy stone fruit and almond butter.

Stewed plum notes and dark chocolate contrast with aromatic spice. On the palate, plums, nectarines and almond butter come to the fore first, before savoury spice and biscuit-like impressions emerge. Chocolate remains present in the finish, accompanied by subtle spice nuances.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: On the nose, stewed plums and rhubarb mingle with dark chocolate and raisins. Cardamom and cinnamon complement the fruit, with a hint of old leather in the background.
• Palate: The whisky feels soft and velvety on the palate. Juicy plums, nectarines and melted almond butter appear first, followed by savoury, spicy notes of cinnamon, clove and brandy snaps.
• Finish: The finish recalls rich dark chocolate pudding, accompanied by a hint of chilli, cardamom and anise.

Distillery/Bottler:

Dailuaine produces its Single Malt beside the Carron Burn near Aberlour in Speyside. Much of its production goes into Blended Scotch, including Johnnie Walker. Relatively rapid distillation and stainless steel components in the condensers, which reduce copper contact, contribute to the distillery's robust, full-bodied character.

James Eadie is responsible for this independent bottling. The present-day company is led by Rupert Patrick, a great-great-grandson of the Scottish brewer James Eadie, who founded his brewing and bottling business in 1854. Historic bottles kept by the family and whisky business ledgers rediscovered in 2016 connect today's work with that heritage. The ledgers record James Eadie's preference for casks that had previously held fortified wines. For its Core Releases, the company tested different combinations of Single Malts and casks before choosing Dailuaine with an Oloroso sherry finish and Teaninich with a Malaga finish.
