Liquorice root is at the heart of La Kritz, providing its intense liquorice flavour, while restrained sweetness and a smooth mouthfeel balance the spice. The recipe contains neither ammonium chloride nor artificial colourings. This handcrafted liqueur is vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free.

The liqueur contains 20% alcohol and comes in a 0.5-litre earthenware bottle. In 2025, La Kritz won the title of world's best liquorice liqueur at the World Liqueur Awards and also received an award at the Frankfurt International Trophy. It can be enjoyed neat, over ice or as a spicy ingredient in cocktails. Shake the bottle well before serving.

The liqueur contains liquorice. People with high blood pressure should avoid excessive consumption.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense liquorice leads the nose, accompanied by anise, liquorice root and earthy herbs. Fennel, star anise, black pepper and a hint of caramel round out the spicy aromas.
• Palate: The first sip reveals bold liquorice and spicy liquorice root with anise and herbs. A delicate salty note provides a contrast. The mouthfeel is velvety, almost creamy and slightly oily. Subtle hints of cocoa, espresso and dark sugar complement the balanced combination of sweetness and spice.
• Finish: The long finish is warm and spicy. Liquorice and herbs linger with a hint of caramel and toffee, while touches of espresso and subtle sweetness return in the aftertaste.

Distillery/Bottler:

Spitzmund has its roots in Kiel and in Andreas Werner's work behind the bar. His many years of experience creating his own cocktails laid the foundation for the brand and its recipes in 2013. Spitzmund produces in small batches; alongside La Kritz, its range includes the egg liqueur Klötenköm and other liqueurs. The brand name alludes to the way the lips purse as a glass approaches the mouth in anticipation of a pleasurable sip.
