Special Features:
Fresh elderflowers are the basis of St‑Germain. The blossoms are harvested by hand in late spring, during a window of just three to four weeks. Picking usually takes place early in the morning, in cooler temperatures, when the flowers are just opening and their aromas are particularly pronounced.
The selected blossoms are processed by infusion to make the liqueur. Each bottle contains the essence of up to 1,000 elderflowers. Its golden-yellow colour comes from flower pollen; no artificial colours or flavourings are added. Alongside elderflower, pear and honeysuckle shape its sweet, floral character.
St‑Germain can be combined in a spritz, with gin and tonic, or with sparkling wine. It can also add a floral accent to a whisky sour. Served neat, it can be enjoyed lightly chilled in a wine glass. This bottling contains 0.7 litres at 20% alcohol.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: The nose offers delicate, sweet elderflower notes, accompanied by peach and subtle hints of citrus.
- Palate: On the palate, elderflower, citrus fruit and pear come together in a balanced flavour. A delicate meringue note complements the floral and fruity impressions.
- Finish: The long finish carries lingering elderflower, gooseberry and persistent citrus notes.
Distillery/Bottler:
Robert J. Cooper, a third-generation distiller, launched St‑Germain in 2007. The name refers to the Parisian district of St-Germain-des-Prés and its links to art and literature. The bottle design draws on Art Deco forms.
Cooper developed the liqueur with cocktail professionals for use behind the bar. St‑Germain is made in France, where a liqueur-making specialist and a botanical ingredients specialist bring together their many years of experience. Selecting and processing fresh blossoms are central to their work.
