Special Features:

This five-year-old single malt was fully matured in cask 4050, a 500-litre ex-Oloroso sherry butt made from American white oak. It was made from Scottish barley malt with a phenol content of 135 ppm. The whisky was distilled on 31 July 2019 and bottled on 18 June 2025 at 59.7%. The single cask yielded 790 bottles of naturally coloured, non-chill-filtered whisky.

Intense peat smoke and dry ash form the sensory core. Dark and dried fruit, apricot, roasted nuts, orange and dark chocolate provide a powerful counterpoint. The whisky is dry and oily on the palate, while spicy oak adds structure. Herbs, citrus zest and a subtle maritime freshness complete the profile.

Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: On the nose, intense peat smoke and dry ash meet sultanas, dried apricots and dates. Mature sherry notes, dark chocolate and delicate nut aromas complement the impression.
  • Palate: The whisky is dry and oily on the palate. Peat fire and spicy oak combine with the creamy sweetness of pale dried fruit, roasted nuts, orange and apricot. A subtle herbal note, toffee, dark chocolate and ashy smoke add further depth.
  • Finish: The finish is long. Creamy dried fruit and ashy smoke are accompanied by dry oak spice, delicate pieces of chocolate and citrus zest, while a subtle maritime freshness adds a cool accent.

Distillery/Bottler:

St. Kilian Distillers was founded in Rüdenau in 2012. Four years later, the first spirit flowed from its two 6,000-litre Forsyth copper stills, and in 2019 the distillery introduced its first three-year-old single malt. Its whisky production follows the Scottish model and includes double distillation in copper pot stills.

St. Kilian Distillers GmbH produced this whisky in Rüdenau. The spirit matured entirely in cask 4050, after which the distillery bottled the whisky directly from the single cask.
